
AirAsia Enhances Connectivity with New Kota Kinabalu to Fukuoka Route Starting August 2025

(PRESS RELEASE) KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia, 2025-Jun-3 — /Travel PR News/ — AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) is enhancing its connectivity from its second-largest hub, Kota Kinabalu, with the introduction of a new fifth-freedom route to Fukuoka, Japan, via Taipei, Taiwan. Starting on 15 August 2025, the daily flights will provide greater flexibility for travelers, enabling them to explore more international destinations from Sabah.
The new route underscores AirAsia’s ongoing commitment to expanding its Kota Kinabalu hub, offering more options for Sabahans and travelers across the region. By adding a convenient stopover in Taipei, AirAsia provides an easy alternative for Malaysians to reach Japan, complementing the existing Kuala Lumpur to Fukuoka route operated by Thai AirAsia (flight code FD) via Don Mueang, Thailand.

With this new service, Sabahans will enjoy more choices and flexibility when flying beyond ASEAN, while supporting the state government’s goal of positioning Sabah as a top tourist destination. The launch also strengthens AirAsia’s vision of fostering regional connectivity and providing seamless travel options across Asia.
To celebrate the new route, AirAsia is offering promotional fares starting at RM609 one-way for flights from Kota Kinabalu to Fukuoka, and JPY21,390 one-way for flights from Fukuoka to Kota Kinabalu. The promotional fares are available for booking until 8 June 2025, for travel between 15 August 2025 and 29 March 2026, through the AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com.
