London, UK, 2014-04-7 — /Travel PR News/ — Air Partner – leading provider of aviation charter services around the world, has teamed up with RM Auctions during the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique weekend to host an exclusive VIP preview of the iconic 1974 Formula 1 winning Hesketh 308 before it goes under the hammer on 10th May.
The 308-1 was the winning chassis at the 1974 Silverstone International Trophy and the car primarily driven by the late James Hunt in the 1974 and 1975 seasons. It made its debut appearance at the Brands Hatch Race of Champions where Hunt – notorious for his action-packed exploits on the track – stunned the paddock by securing pole position before spinning off on lap four.
Hesketh Racing was formed in 1972 by the British Peer, Lord Alexander Hesketh who was an ardent motorsport enthusiast with aspirations to participate in the sport at the highest level. Hesketh appointed a well-known racing car engineer Harvey Postlethwaite to design and construct a new bespoke car in which the team’s lead driver James Hunt could contest the 1974 Formula 1 World Championship. The Hesketh 308 was the car that Hunt famously steered to victory at the Grand Prix at Silverstone that year.
This prized vestige from the most glamorous period in motorsport – captured recently in the movie Rush – will be the focal point of a fabulous evening hosted by Air Partner and RM Auctions on 9th May– an event important enough to entice both Lord Hesketh and James Hunt’s son Freddie (who will be racing at Le Mans this year) to the principality.
