2012-10-17 — /travelprnews.com/ — agoda.com, Asia’s leading hotel booking site and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group (Nasdaq: PCLN), has announced hotel deals in Italy’s ancient capital city of Rome in preparation for the annual Rome Film Festival.
Although it hasn’t been around as long as some of its bigger cousins like Cannes or Sundance, the Rome Film Festival is nonetheless a prestigious, high-profile event that sees some of the biggest names in world cinema walk down its red carpet as an army of paparazzi scream for the best photo-op. This will be its seventh year.
Held from 9-17 November, 2012, the festival will see the world premiere of 60 international films that will be vying for awards in eight different categories. Overseen by Artistic Director Marco Mueller, a veteran of the Venice Film Festival, the event will welcome over 500 artists from around the world, including Walter Hill, Johnnie To, Gabrielle Muccino and Jeff Nichols, who will preside over the main jury.
In addition, the festival will also host the international premier of several high profile Hollywood films, including DreamWorks’ latest animated film Rise of the Guardians, which will be attended by director Peter Ramsey, as well as Jeffrey Katzenberg and producer Guillermo del Toro, and the final film in the ultra-popular Twilight saga. Russian Bakhtiar Khudojnazarov’s Waiting for the Sea will open the festival, and Catalan Cesc Gay’s A Gun In Each Hand will close it.
The prestige of the event is no doubt highlighted by the prestige of Rome itself. As one of history’s truly great cities, its cultural, philosophical, political and artistic influences on modern society simply cannot be understated. Reminders of these ancient contributions continue to define the city today, and when you’re done mingling with the stars at the film festival, you can head out into Rome to see some of its world-famous attractions, such as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, or Vatican City.
