The partnership, which began in January 2024, focused on supporting disadvantaged families across the North-East of Scotland by providing essential items for children in need.
The funds raised through the collaboration have enabled AberNecessities to distribute thousands of everyday necessities to local families, addressing basic needs and helping reduce hardship among vulnerable children in the region. The charity described the partnership with the North East’s largest transport hub as transformative, highlighting the generosity shown by both airport staff and passengers throughout the two-year period.
Beyond fundraising, the partnership also aimed to raise awareness of the challenges faced by families in the local community. A series of high-profile fundraising initiatives, including Jet Set Spin and the Aberdeen Runway Run, played a central role, alongside ongoing passenger donations and staff-led activities. Collectively, these efforts have contributed to more than £265,000 raised for charitable causes by the airport since 2022.
AberNecessities’ founder, Danielle Flecher-Horn, said the collaboration had significantly strengthened the charity’s ability to support families, noting that the visibility and engagement generated through the airport partnership helped shine a light on child poverty issues within the region. She credited the sustained involvement of airport employees and travellers for the partnership’s success.
Aberdeen International Airport’s management also acknowledged the impact of the initiative, describing the partnership as a reflection of the airport’s wider commitment to supporting local communities. With the partnership now concluded, Aberdeen International Airport has confirmed it is in the process of selecting its next charity partner. The new organisation will be chosen through an internal staff vote, with the appointment scheduled for January, continuing the airport’s ongoing charity partnership programme.
