Alexandria, VA, 2016-Nov-05 — /Travel PR News/ — The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) today marks the one-year anniversary of operations for a proven and successful system that helps airports manage transportation network companies’ (TNC) operations and revenue at their facilities.
The ABT Clearinghouse, which was developed in partnership with San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and is available to airports nationwide, tracks TNC vehicles – such as Uber and Lyft – in the airport environment for fee calculation and reconciliation, roadway planning, and curbside enforcement efforts that benefit the airport and its passengers. Over the course of the past year, AAAE has processed more than 4.7 million revenue-based trips at SFO alone.
Entering its second year of operations, the ABT Clearinghouse is now in use at SFO and multiple airports across the country. One of the nation’s largest Cat X airports will also begin using the solution by year end.
The ABT Clearinghouse is a cutting-edge solution that helps airports manage the challenges associated with the growing demand for TNC services. TNC ridership has steadily increased at airports using the Clearinghouse. For example, TNC rides at SFO increased by more than 57 percent over the past 11 months. Another airport saw a ridership increase of 30 percent in just four months.
“The ABT Clearinghouse is an elegant, innovative solution for a complex problem that allows airports to better serve their customers while ensuring that revenue due to the airport materializes,” AAAE President and CEO Todd Hauptli said.
“We believe in sharing best practices, and AAAE provides us with that forum,” said SFO Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. “Our early experience integrating app-based forms of ground transportation led us to an innovative solution, and our partnership with AAAE has made it available to other airports around the nation. We appreciate AAAE for their role as an advocate and operational platform for our industry.”
“AAAE’s innovative reporting capabilities have helped enable Lyft’s success at airport partners across the country,” said Bakari Brock, Lyft’s Senior Director of Business Development. “We look forward to continuing to work with AAAE as Lyft grows quickly at airports nationwide.”
AAAE provides the ABT Clearinghouse service for Uber, Lyft, Wingz and other TNC providers. The ABT Clearinghouse tracks TNC transactions within a designated GPS “geo-fence” area that alerts the airport operator when a drop-off or pick-up occurs and whenever a driver enters or leaves the designated area.
Airports that utilize the TNC system benefit by being able to offer their customers more ground-side transportation options while improving security and accountability by seeing in real time where TNC vehicles are located on airport grounds. Airports interested in utilizing this new service should contact AAAE Executive Vice President Carter Morris at (703) 824 0504 or Carter.Morris@aaae.org.
