(PRESS RELEASE) LISBON, 2025-May-8 — /Travel PR News/ — Following the success of its inaugural edition, TAP Air Portugal proudly announces the return of the Altitude Film Fest, the airline’s unique On Board Film Festival. This second edition continues to celebrate cinema at 30,000 feet, offering an innovative platform to showcase international films while promoting Portuguese culture and traditions. Applications are now open until May 31, 2025, with a registration fee of $10 USD.
The Altitude Film Fest provides emerging filmmakers from around the world with an exciting opportunity to submit short fiction or documentary films (no longer than 30 minutes). To qualify, the film must meet at least one of the following criteria: part of the film was shot in Portugal, or the content focuses on Portuguese culture. Only short films produced between March 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025, will be accepted. Submissions will first be pre-selected by a committee appointed by TAP, after which a final list will be evaluated by an independent jury consisting of film industry professionals. Finalists will be notified by July 28, 2025.
The Altitude Film Fest was created with the purpose of showcasing new filmmaking talent while offering TAP passengers a distinctive cultural experience. For the duration of the festival, TAP’s long-haul flights will transform their in-flight entertainment systems into cinema rooms. In October 2025, passengers will be able to watch the 10 finalist films and vote for their favorite. The winners will be determined through a combination of the jury’s vote (40%) and the passengers’ votes (60%).
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on World Cinema Day, November 5, 2025, in Lisbon. The Grand Prize winners for Best Fiction Film and Best Documentary Film will each receive a travel grant of 1,500 euros. This award not only acknowledges the artistic achievement of the winning films but also offers filmmakers the chance to broaden their horizons and find inspiration through global travel experiences.
