Hilton Auckland in the New Zealand Youth Employment Movement

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 2015-3-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Hilton Auckland has partnered with Auckland Council to join the Youth Employment Movement to assist 23,000 young people in Auckland who are not in employment, training or education.

In response to the high unemployment rates within the region, Auckland Council has sought proactive employers to help join the cause and create a tangible difference youth employment.

Commenting on the partnership, Roger Brantsma, general manager, Hilton Auckland, said, “We are delighted to support the Youth Employment Movement and see it as a great opportunity to provide our hotel resources to help the young people of Auckland reach their full potential.”

A key component of the Youth Employment Movement is a Traction Hub that provides an independent space for pledge partners to design solutions for overcoming the youth barriers to employment and developing sustainable ways for equipping our next generation with the right skills.

Exciting initiatives from the Youth Employment Movement potentially include a web-based portal for young people to create profiles and be matched to suitable job opportunities, as well as offering work trails, placements and practice interviews to encourage greater skill growth.

Hilton Auckland’s participation is part of its own Bright Blue Futures program that is designed to help young people achieve stability through the delivery of basic needs such as food, shelter, and hope through education, training and employment.

“We understand the importance of hospitality being a major employer of young people, but also recognise that simply creating jobs will not be enough to address youth employment. It is a much more holistic approach of confidence building and skill development that will ensure young people not only compete, but excel in their positions”, said Brantsma.

Young people are the largest demographic in the world today, and Hilton Auckland believes that connecting with young people and preparing them for meaningful jobs is key to a brighter future for all.
