Gatwick Airport achieves the Gold Standard Investors in People (IiP) award

  • Gatwick among UK’s top 1000 companies
  • Gatwick supports and offers its workforce opportunities to improve

London, 2016-Feb-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Gatwick Airport has achieved the Gold Standard Investors in People (IiP) award – jumping up three levels in just three years – the airport announced today.

Gatwick has been benchmarking itself against other great companies and brands since new ownership to ensure it offers passengers a world class service and develops the airport in the best way possible.

This IiP Gold Standard is a framework that good companies can use to run a successful business through its people and Gatwick views the award as further proof the airport is in better shape than ever.

The award has been achieved because of the way Gatwick manages itself internally, the way it supports staff and offers its workforce opportunities to improve, and also its leadership.

Gatwick met 168 of the IiP’s 188 evidence requirements, following 119 interviews with staff at all levels of the business. Specific examples of good practice include:

  • Positive examples of leadership at all management levels, with further development in place
  • Good mechanisms in place to aid effective communication; increasing the number of engagement activities, including town hall style meetings and good quality team meetings.
  • Strong awareness among all staff of Gatwick’s values and a passion and commitment to deliver the best experience for passengers
  • Embracing reward and recognition schemes and thanking teams

Just over 1000 UK companies have achieved the IiP Gold Standard.

Gatwick’s Human Resources Director, Darren Hockaday, said:

“We are all extremely proud to have achieved the IiP Gold Standard award. While there is always more to do, this accreditation is very encouraging and we will build on it to improve the way we work with our staff even further.

“The people who work at Gatwick’s are the airport’s most important resource.  Only by supporting and encouraging our staff will the airport truly succeed as a business.”

About Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second largest airport and the most efficient single-runway airport in the world. It serves more than 200 destinations in 90 countries for more than 40 million passengers a year on short and long-haul point-to-point services. It is also a major economic driver for the South East region, generating around 21,000 on-airport jobs and a further 10,000 jobs through related activities. The airport is south of Central London with excellent public transport links, including the Gatwick Express, and is part of the Oyster contactless payment network. Gatwick Airport is owned by a group of international investment funds, of which Global Infrastructure Partners is the largest shareholder.

The Government has indicated it will make a decision this year on whether Gatwick airport should be expanded. Gatwick’s second runway will deliver the UK the same number of passengers, the same number of long haul routes, better UK and regional connections, and the economic boost the UK needs, all at a dramatically lower environmental impact, at less than half the cost of Heathrow, and with no public subsidy.
