Washington, D.C., 2013-02-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — Statement by Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, regarding today’s announcement by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that PreCheck, a trusted traveler program, has expanded to Austin-Bergstrom International, Cleveland Hopkins International, Memphis International, Nashville International and Raleigh-Durham International airports:
“We are thrilled to see PreCheck expand to these key airports and communities,” said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. “With the volume of U.S. air travel expected to double in 20 years, our country has a significant need for a trusted traveler program like PreCheck. We applaud the TSA for its continued expansion of the program and reaching a notable milestone of 40 airports nationwide, and we encourage more travelers to take advantage of PreCheck’s many benefits.
“As all of Washington prepares for the very real potential of automatic budget cuts due to the sequester, we are concerned that programs like PreCheck, which are critical to the efficient facilitation of travel, could be impacted. We strongly urge Congress to take immediate action on the impending federal budget cuts.”
The U.S. Travel Association is the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the travel industry that generates $1.9 trillion in economic output and supports 14.4 million jobs. U.S. Travel’s mission is to increase travel to and within the United States.
