U.S. DOT Deputy Secretary Tours O’Hare Modernization Program

CHICAGO, 2012-08-08 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) today hosted U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Deputy Secretary  John D. Porcari at O’Hare International Airport and provided him with an airfield tour of current construction activity on the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP).

CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino and executive staff accompanied Deputy Secretary Porcari on a tour of several OMP project sites including Runway 10C/28C, the future South Air Traffic Control Tower location, Runway 10R/27L, Irving Park Road and Union Pacific Railroad relocations, as well as the location of a future consolidated rental car/public parking facility on the northeast side of O’Hare.

During the tour, Andolino and her staff had an opportunity to brief Porcari on the tremendous progress that’s already been accomplished on the OMP and discuss what lies ahead for one of the nation’s largest infrastructure projects. Deputy Secretary Porcari witnessed first-hand the ongoing construction work that is increasing the efficiency and capacity of O’Hare’s operations, as well as the national aviation system.

Porcari was also able to see how the CDA is incorporating innovative sustainability initiatives and best green practices on the OMP to help protect the environment.

As Deputy Secretary, Porcari is responsible for day-to-day operations of the 10 federal modal administrations and the work of more than 55,000 DOT employees nationwide and overseas. Porcari has served as Deputy Secretary of Transportation since June 1, 2009.
