TUI Tests Sand Shaker Device to Help Families End Post-Beach Clean-Up Struggles

(IN SHORT) TUI has unveiled the Sand Shaker, a tremor-technology platform designed to remove stubborn sand from belongings in seconds, aiming to eliminate one of the biggest frustrations of a beach holiday. The prototype is currently being tested and comes in response to research showing that over half of Brits dread cleaning up sand, with many spending up to 30 minutes trying to remove it after a trip. The survey also found that sand is a major deterrent for some beachgoers, with nearly three-quarters of respondents wishing for a more convenient way to get rid of it. TUI hopes the Sand Shaker will allow families to leave the beach sand-free and stress-free, enhancing the overall holiday experience.

(NEWS) LONDON, 2025-Aug-11 — /Travel PR News/ — TUI has introduced a new invention aimed at solving one of the most frustrating parts of a beach holiday – unwanted sand. The travel company’s prototype device, called the Sand Shaker, uses tremor technology to quickly remove sand from clothes, shoes, and other belongings in seconds. Currently undergoing beach testing in the UK, the platform allows users to simply step on and “shake it off,” leaving behind the stubborn grains that often linger long after a day at the seaside.

The launch follows new research by TUI revealing the UK’s love affair with beach holidays, which remain the nation’s favourite getaway. However, more than half of respondents (54%) dread cleaning up sand, with over a third (35%) admitting they find it more trouble than it’s worth. Sand was ranked among the top annoyances of beach trips, with 56% of people saying they would visit the beach more often if they could avoid bringing sand home, and 29% identifying sand in food as their biggest irritation.

Families spend an average of 15 minutes removing sand after a beach day, and one in ten spend over half an hour. Almost three-quarters (74%) wish for a more efficient solution, while 49% say they can never fully get rid of sand despite their best efforts. Alarmingly, 40% of families have even thrown away items that were too sandy to clean. The Sand Shaker is designed to end this struggle, ensuring holidaymakers can return home with happy memories instead of messy mementos.

Neil Swanson, Managing Director of TUI UK and Ireland, said the concept was born after learning that beach trips often end with long, tedious cleaning sessions. “Sand should only be found on the beach,” he remarked, noting that the device aims to help parents and families enjoy the seaside without the post-trip mess. As testing continues this summer, the company hopes the Sand Shaker will become a standard part of the modern beach experience.
