LONDON, 2015-7-13 — /Travel PR News/ — The Zetter Group, Chef Bruno Loubet and Airport Retail Enterprises (ARE) join forces to open Grain Store Café & Bar at Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal.
London Gatwick is to be home to the first offshoot of Chef Bruno Loubet and The Zetter Group’s award-winning Grain Store restaurant in King’s Cross, opening autumn 2015.
The new dining offering at Gatwick’s South Terminal will feature a completely new family-friendly all-day menu, specially created with airport travellers in mind. The menu will feature fresh and organic vegetables, and fish and meat sourced from local British producers. As with Grain Store in King’s Cross, here too vegetables will be the star of the show as Bruno brings the principles of seasonality and sustainability to an airport café menu.
A new highlight at the eatery is a wholesome breakfast menu created by Bruno exclusively for Grain Store Café & Bar at Gatwick Airport. It also features a bar with innovative cocktails, a great wine list and unique non-alcoholic drinks and smoothies.
Grain Store Café & Bar will focus on speed of service, in line with Gatwick Airport’s promise to serve meals within 15 minutes, providing premium dining whilst giving passengers peace of mind about their flight plans.
The space has been designed by the renowned Russell Sage Studio who is behind some of London’s most iconic restaurants including The Savoy Grill, Quaglino’s, and the original Grain Store in King’s Cross.
Operator ARE is a family-owned business with over 40 years’ experience operating food and drink outlets in airports throughout Australia. ARE was the first operator to bring premium dining to Australian airports through partnerships with some of the country’s most prolific chefs.
Mark Sainsbury of The Zetter Group says, “We are very excited about this new project with ARE and Gatwick. Grain Store really has challenged the orthodoxy that meat and fish should be centre stage; vegetables are the stars of our show, and we are excited to bring Grain Store’s award-winning approach to food to new audiences. This is Bruno cooking what he loves best, and now travellers at the airport can enjoy a delicious and healthy meal before flying.”
Charlotte Christiansen, Business Development Manager at Gatwick Airport, says, “Gatwick is absolutely thrilled to be Grain Store’s first opening following their flagship restaurant in King’s Cross. As part of our ongoing transformation of Gatwick’s retail and restaurants, we’ve been working tirelessly to attract brands that reflect what our passengers want and need. This is a perfect example of our work paying off. We’re looking forward to welcoming the first passengers through the door and showcasing the renowned cooking talents of Bruno Loubet.”
John Butts, Director of ARE (UK) says, “We are delighted to be partnering with Grain Store and Gatwick Airport in this our first operation in the UK. Grain Store is a unique and ground-breaking concept and we are immensely proud to be bringing this to one of the world’s great airports.”
Editor’s Notes:
Grain Store
Grain Store opened in the spectacular new development Granary Square in King’s Cross in 2013 to critical acclaim, with chef Bruno Loubet hailing vegetables as the hero ingredient. There are no geographical boundaries to the influences that have inspired the eclectic menu at Grain Store – they are a culmination of Bruno’s extensive travels and the years he has dedicated to his beloved vegetable patch. Although many dishes have a meat or fish element, the menu gives vegetables equal billing, if not the starring role. Fermented, sprouting, pickled and smoked ingredients feature alongside the fresh and the seasonal. Flavour above all else is king. Overlooking the Granary Square fountains, Grain Store’s bar and terrace offer an award-winning list of cocktails, original non-alcoholic cocktails and shakes created for Grain Store by drinks pioneer Tony Conigliaro.
Recently, Grain Store was once again awarded ‘Sustainable Restaurant of the Year’ at the National Restaurant Awards and also came in at no.43 amongst the top 100 restaurants in the UK. www.grainstore.com
The Zetter Group
The Zetter Group is owned by partners Mark Sainsbury, Michael Benyan & Jason Catifeoglou. Mark and Michael first joined forces to open the multi-award winning Moro restaurant in 1997. They reunited a few years later to buy an old five-storey warehouse in Clerkenwell and set about turning it into a destination for those looking for a hotel with style, comfort and personality. They opened their first property, 59-room The Zetter Hotel in 2004 to wide acclaim. The Group then went on to open Bistrot Bruno Loubet in February 2010; The Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell in 2011; and Grain Store in 2013. The Zetter Townhouse Marylebone opens 14th August 2015. www.thezettergroup.com
Airport Retail Enterprises (ARE)
ARE is one of Australia’s leading airport F&B retailers, operating approximately 50 outlets through a combination of own brands, franchises and partnerships with some of the country’s best known chefs. ARE has established itself as a pioneer in airport F&B – it was the first operator to offer freshly cooked meals, freshly roasted and ground coffee and the first to bring chef-led premium dining concepts to Australian airports.
ARE is a privately-owned family business founded over 40 years ago by Peter Butts. In 2013 it established a UK presence through Peter’s son John and his wife Hayley. The opening of Grain Store Café & Bar at Gatwick Airport represents the beginning of the next leg of growth for ARE into the UK market.
Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second largest airport and the most efficient single-runway airport in the world. It serves more than 200 destinations in 90 countries for more than 38 million passengers a year on short and long haul point-to-point services. It is also a major economic driver for the South East region, generating around 21,000 on-airport jobs and a further 10,000 jobs through related activities. The airport is 28 miles south of London with excellent public transport links, including the Gatwick Express. Gatwick Airport is owned by a group of international investment funds, of which Global Infrastructure Partners is the largest shareholder.
The Government has indicated that it will make a decision over whether London Gatwick or Heathrow should be permitted to build a new runway by the end of the year. Expansion at Gatwick will best meet the UK’s aviation needs for the future, can provide the greatest economic boost with the least environmental impact, and a new runway can be operational by 2025.
