(PRESS RELEASE) Zurich, Switzerland, 2025-Feb-11 — /Travel PR News/ — Swissport International is further strengthening its air cargo handling operations in Australia and New Zealand with the opening of new facilities in Melbourne, Sydney, and Auckland. The global leader in airport ground services and air cargo handling aims to meet growing demand by offering enhanced capacity and tailored services at these new locations. The facilities are designed to optimize operational efficiency and provide specialized solutions for a diverse range of cargo needs, reinforcing Swissport’s position as a key logistics partner in the region.

Joel Greig, General Manager Cargo for Australia and New Zealand at Swissport, expressed his confidence in the company’s expansion plans: “We are well-positioned to support the increasing air cargo demand in Australia and New Zealand. Our new sites in Melbourne, Sydney, and Auckland are equipped with advanced temperature-controlled areas, direct airside access, and cutting-edge technology, ensuring our customers receive the highest level of service across the entire supply chain.”

State-of-the-Art Facilities for Enhanced Efficiency

Swissport’s Melbourne facility at Tullamarine Airport offers a strategic advantage with its proximity to the airside, positioning it as the most accessible cargo handling site for freight forwarders. With a sprawling 9,366 sqm area, including 5,000 sqm of warehouse space, the facility is equipped with temperature-controlled storage capabilities to handle sensitive cargo, including perishables and pharmaceuticals, within precise temperature ranges of 2-8°C and 15-25°C.

At Sydney Airport, Swissport has upgraded its existing facility, expanding its handling area to over 4,500 sqm. The newly renovated, temperature-controlled center is designed to manage a wide variety of cargo, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, mail, express shipments, and general cargo. Fully licensed to meet all customs, biosecurity, and screening standards for Regulated Air Cargo Agents (RACA), the facility ensures seamless operations for a wide range of customer requirements. Additionally, express delivery trucks capable of airside loading will ensure rapid delivery to freight forwarders, with a 45-minute turnaround time from an aircraft’s arrival.

Entering the New Zealand Market

Swissport is also expanding its reach into New Zealand’s air cargo sector. Starting in late March 2025, the company will offer services at Auckland Airport, featuring the airport’s most advanced X-ray machine, which boasts high-penetration, dual-view technology, and explosives and narcotics detection capabilities.

Since its expansion in Australia began just a few months ago, Swissport has rapidly increased its customer base, initially launching with Vietjet and Batik Air and soon including LATAM Airlines and numerous freight forwarders. Swissport’s dedication to operational excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction positions it as a trusted partner for air cargo services in the region and globally.
