(IN SHORT) Swissport has partnered with Aurrigo International plc to launch its first global pilot of autonomous ground handling solutions at Zurich Airport. The initiative includes deploying a digital simulation platform, Auto-Sim, and conducting a live trial of Aurrigo’s autonomous electric vehicle, Auto-DollyTug. This collaboration aims to enhance airside operations by improving efficiency, safety, and sustainability. The partnership also sets the stage for future expansion at additional airports, with Swissport gaining exclusive operational rights for Aurrigo’s autonomous technologies.

(PRESS RELEASE) ZURICH, 2025-May-21 — /Travel PR News/ — Swissport, the world’s leading provider of airport ground services and air cargo handling, has announced a strategic partnership with UK-based Aurrigo International plc to launch its first global pilot of autonomous ground handling technologies. The pilot will take place at Zurich Airport, marking a significant milestone in Swissport’s innovation roadmap and positioning the company as a leader in next-generation intelligent Ground Support Equipment (iGSE).

“This partnership is a crucial milestone in Swissport’s innovation journey,” said Warwick Brady, President & CEO of Swissport International. “Integrating autonomous technologies into our operations allows us to redefine ground handling by enhancing safety, improving efficiency, and aligning with the sustainability goals of our airline and airport partners across the globe.”

Pioneering Airside Innovation

The project begins with the deployment of Auto-Sim, a digital simulation platform that enables Swissport to model ground operations in a virtual environment. This platform will help identify potential automation opportunities and support data-driven decision-making for infrastructure and operational planning.

The next phase of the pilot will see the live trial of Aurrigo’s fully autonomous electric vehicle, Auto-DollyTug, at Zurich Airport. The vehicle is equipped with 360° obstacle detection, advanced situational awareness, and automated loading and unloading capabilities for Unit Load Devices (ULDs). By optimizing ramp operations and seamlessly integrating into fleet coordination strategies, Auto-DollyTug is designed to enhance the efficiency and safety of airside logistics.

Strategic Vision for the Future

The collaboration at Zurich Airport is just the beginning. Swissport and Aurrigo are working together to assess additional airport locations for future deployment. As part of the agreement, Swissport will secure exclusive operational rights for Aurrigo’s autonomous solutions at its co-operated locations and will gain early access to Aurrigo’s expanding portfolio of autonomous technologies, including a remote control and command platform for scalable deployment of autonomous assets across Swissport’s global network.

Professor David Keene, CEO of Aurrigo International, commented, “This partnership with Swissport is a major step in scaling autonomous innovation within global aviation. Our shared commitment to long-term collaboration, operational excellence, and continuous innovation in aviation automation will drive industry transformation.”

Driving Digital Transformation in Ground Handling

As the aviation industry evolves, Swissport remains at the forefront of embracing intelligent technologies and sustainable practices. Through its partnership with Aurrigo, Swissport is reinforcing its leadership in the digital transformation of airport ground handling, addressing the growing demands of airlines and airports worldwide.
