Toronto, Canada, 2017-Nov-13 — /Travel PR News/ — Sushi Wakon restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto has achieved its first Michelin star in the Michelin Guide Kyoto and Osaka 2018 in their first year of operations. Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto also gained a coveted “Five Red Pavilions” ranking, which marks the highest level of hotel comfort.
Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto opened in October 2016 amid a surge of international visitors to Japan’s ancient capital. Its fusion of traditional craftmanship with contemporary design offers a haven of quiet dignity, discreet expression and strong engagement with nature.
Sushi Wakon is the creation of Chef Rei Masuda of Tokyo’s Sushi Masuda, which also boasts two Michelin stars. Guests to Sushi Wakon can enjoy some of the world’s best quality ingredients flown fresh each day from Tokyo’s iconic Tsukiji market. The restaurant’s eight-metre-long (26 foot) hinoki cypress counter overlooks the 800-year-old pond garden Shakusuien-en. This stunning venue creates a truly unforgettable fine dining experience.
“We’re extremely proud that the Michelin Guide has recognised Sushi Wakon for their excellence in our very first year of operations,” says Alex Porteous, General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto. “In Kyoto, we welcome many domestic and international travellers eager to experience the culture of Washoku. We take great pride in providing this beautiful and delicious food at Sushi Wakon and all the dining experiences throughout our Hotel. Our team’s passion for hospitality and craftsmanship is truly superb. We look forward to continuing to provide truly unique and memorable experiences here in Kyoto.”
A designated UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, Washoku is a traditional style of Japanese cuisine where each ingredient in a meal is thoughtfully selected and prepared to harmonise with the changing seasons and reflect local culinary traditions. The culture of Washoku at Sushi Wakon presents an added opportunity for guests at Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto to delve deeper into the culture of Kyoto, alongside the many off-the-beaten-path experiences, tailor-made for guests at Four Seasons.
