2013-06-18 — /travelprnews.com/ — This summer, visitors to The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue are invited to unlock chocolate’s ancient past, experiment in the Chocolate Lab and learn about chocolate magnate Milton S. Hershey’s journey from failures to fortunes.
Maya Chocolate Adventure
Beginning on Friday, June 28, visitors can trek through a simulated rainforest in the Maya Chocolate Adventure activity located in the museum’s special exhibit gallery. Activities include unearthing puzzle pieces to form a hieroglyph, grinding chocolate beans using a mortar and pestle, and identifying hidden cocoa pods in a Maya art mural. Participants also can write their names “Maya-style” and simulate the ancient Maya custom of creating foam on a chocolate beverage using frothing sticks called molinillos. This activity is held daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Monday, September 2. The cost is $5 per participant; accompanying adults are free.
Chocolate Lab Classes
Guests can experiment with chocolate in a variety of sessions in the hands-on Chocolate Lab. Classes include “Chocolate Beach Bars,” “Build a Bar,” “Chocolate by Design,” “Planet Chocolate” and “S’mores Galore.” In recognition of Independence Day, participants can create their own edible American flag in the “Yankee Doodle Chocolate Bars” classes held between Thursday, July 4 and Sunday, July 7. Chocolate Lab classes are 45 minutes and multiple classes are held daily.
Museum Experience
In the Museum Experience, visitors can learn about the life and legacy of Milton S. Hershey through five permanent exhibit areas – Failures to Fortunes, Sweet Innovations, Power of Promotion, Hershey Builds Hershey and A Living Legacy.
