(NEWS) BUDAPEST, 2025-Dec-15 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air has officially reopened its base at Suceava “Ștefan cel Mare” International Airport, marking a significant expansion of the airline’s operations in northeastern Romania. The relaunch is supported by the allocation of two Airbus A321neo family aircraft, bringing Wizz Air’s total fleet in Romania to 41 aircraft, with two more already planned for delivery in 2026. Based on their official press update, the move adds more than 130,000 additional seats for the winter season and strengthens Suceava’s role within the airline’s Romanian network.
The renewed base enables the launch of seven new routes connecting Suceava with destinations across five countries, including Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Cyprus, and Belgium. New services to Bologna, Milan Bergamo, Venice, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Birmingham, Larnaca, and Brussels Charleroi began this December, while flight frequency on the existing Dortmund route is set to increase from January 2026. In total, Wizz Air now operates 13 routes from Suceava to six countries, enhancing connectivity for both leisure travelers and those visiting friends and relatives.
The reopening also coincides with major infrastructure developments at Suceava Airport. Local authorities highlighted recent upgrades, including the installation of an ILS CAT III system to improve operational reliability in adverse weather, as well as plans for a new Terminal 3, apron modernization, expanded parking, and improved road access. These investments are aimed at supporting future growth and positioning the airport as a modern regional gateway.
Since beginning operations in Suceava in 2016, Wizz Air has carried more than 3.4 million passengers through the airport, underscoring the long-term partnership between the airline and the region. To mark the relaunch, the airline added a small celebratory gesture on one of its first departing flights, surprising several local passengers with travel vouchers. With the base now fully operational again, Wizz Air’s expansion is expected to contribute to increased regional mobility, tourism development, and broader access to affordable air travel from northern Romania.
