Southwest Debuts Twice-Daily Indianapolis–Chicago Midway Service and Delta to Relaunch Raleigh Flights

(IN SHORT) Southwest Airlines has launched twice-daily, year-round nonstop flights between Indianapolis and Chicago Midway, reestablishing the route after a five-year gap and expanding Hoosiers’ travel options. The airline’s new service complements its existing network of nonstops from IND to 19 destinations. Additionally, Delta Air Lines will resume twice-weekly nonstop flights from Indianapolis to Raleigh-Durham on August 11, reinstating a route halted by the pandemic. Airport authority officials highlight the business and leisure benefits, citing regional economic ties and growing demand. Travelers can book both Southwest and Delta services via their respective websites.

(PRESS RELEASE) INDIANAPOLIS, 2025-Aug-5 — /Travel PR News/ —Southwest Airlines today inaugurated its long-awaited year-round, twice-daily nonstop service between Indianapolis International Airport (IND) and Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), marking the return of this route after nearly five years. The addition provides Hoosiers with enhanced access and flexibility when traveling to the Windy City.

“The Midway service gives Hoosier travelers more regional access, and more flexibility when flying into Chicago,” said Mario Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “This route will serve both business and leisure passengers with increased convenience, connectivity and choices across our nationwide network.”

Southwest’s new MDW flights join an extensive roster of nonstop routes from IND—including Atlanta, Austin, Nashville, Baltimore, Cancun, Dallas, Denver, Panama City, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Orlando, Miami, Phoenix, Fort Myers, San Diego, Sarasota and Tampa—further strengthening its national footprint.

On August 11, Delta Air Lines will also resume its twice-weekly nonstop service to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), restoring a popular connection that ran from January 2010 until April 2020. “Raleigh-Durham is a highly sought-after route for our business community,” noted Marsha Wurster, Senior Director of Commercial Enterprise for the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “Eli Lilly’s growing presence there, upcoming NCAA events in Cary and the expanding tech sector all underscore the importance of this link.”

Delta’s reinstated RDU flights will offer travelers direct access to North Carolina’s Research Triangle, the Outer Banks and the region’s cultural attractions. Delta’s current nonstop offerings from IND also include Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Cancun, Detroit, New York (JFK and LaGuardia), Los Angeles, Orlando, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City, while Frontier continues to operate seasonal IND–RDU service.
