Second Look at San Diego Zoo Panda Cub Shows More Cute, More Calm

2012-08-31 — /travelprnews.com/ — The San Diego Zoo Panda Team got another look at the month-old panda cub during a routine veterinarian exam Thursday. The cub, born on July 29, had just finished nursing and, with a full belly, remained calm throughout the exam. While staff has not determined the sex, they were able to take measurements; the cub weighs 2.2 pounds and seems to be developing normally.

Other measurements: chest girth, 10 inches, abdominal girth, 11.4 inches, and the length of its right hind foot, 2 inches.

The cub’s eyes are still closed and aren’t expected to begin to open until it is at least 40 days old.

This is the sixth giant panda born at the San Diego Zoo, the most born at a breeding facility outside of China. All six giant panda births have been to mother Bai Yun.Photo taken on August 30, 2012, by Ken Bohn, San Diego Zoo.
