COLOGNE, Germany, 2020-Feb-13 — /Travel PR News/ — Relay teams comprised of four runners have the challenge of running a total of 41.195 kilometers: Every year, the relay teams that participate in the Munich Marathon train hard to cross the finish line. In 2020, with Munich Airport as the lead sponsor, the Munich Marathon is taking it a step further. In the “Around the World Challenge”, we invite everyone to put together a team, lace up your shoes and run for a good cause!

A new goal every year

The Around the World Challenge is set up as a multi-year event divided into several stages, with each destination along the way corresponding to one of Munich’s partner airports. In the first year, the teams will symbolically run from Munich to Denver. Munich Airport and Denver International Airport signed their Sister Airport Agreement back in 1991. To cover the distance of 8428 kilometers we need 200 relay teams that will run in this year‘s marathon. The honorary patron of this first stage is the US General Consul Meghan Gregonis, who plans to run on the big day in October.

Next year the teams will have a new destination: Nagoya in Japan. To cover the 9563 kilometers of the Denver-Nagoya stage, 227 four-person teams will be needed. Enclosed you will find additional information regarding the various stages of the Around the World Challenge.

A donation for every kilometer

The Around the World Challenge is not only about big fitness goals. The teams will also be running for a good cause. For every kilometer that is run, money will be donated to a charitable organization. The registration fee for the challenge is 200 euros for a four-member team. This includes a 42-euro donation for the Munich Marathon Foundation. All of the proceeds collected will help support social projects and sporting activities for children and youth. Of course, it is possible to make additional donations. After the marathon, the relay runners are invited to the lounge in order to celebrate their big accomplishment and swap stories with all of the participating teams.

Those who wish to run the marathon on October 11th can register now.
