Qantas Rolls Out Next-Gen Comfort Upgrades for A330s Ahead of Project Sunrise

(PRESS RELEASE) Sydney, Australia, 2024-Oct-25— /Travel PR News/ — Qantas has announced a major cabin overhaul for its Airbus A330 fleet, featuring new Economy seating and upgraded inflight entertainment aimed at enhancing passenger comfort on international routes to Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo. As part of a multimillion-dollar refurbishment, Qantas will install new Economy seats equipped with 13.3-inch 4K OLED touchscreens (20% larger than previous screens), USB-C fast charging, and Bluetooth audio, allowing passengers to use their own headphones.
This upgrade, part of Qantas’ Project Sunrise ultra-long-haul program, will be implemented across 10 A330-200 aircraft, with each featuring new mood lighting, refreshed curtains, and carpets. Qantas’ Business Suites, with fully-flat beds, will remain unchanged, maintaining the popular design already seen on the airline’s A380s and 787 Dreamliners.
Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace emphasized that this cabin upgrade extends Qantas’ ongoing fleet renewal, promising an upgraded experience that reflects next-generation amenities. “These Economy seats offer a preview of what’s to come on our ultra-long-haul A350-1000ULR aircraft, designed for ultimate comfort on international travel,” Wallace shared.
The refurbishment of the A330 fleet is set to begin in mid-2025, with the first upgraded aircraft ready for service by year-end and the entire program concluding by the end of 2026. Qantas also recently introduced its international Wi-Fi rollout across the A330 fleet, offering free, high-speed Wi-Fi on select Asia routes from December.
Qantas’s cabin upgrade aligns with its broader fleet renewal plan, which includes a phased replacement of the A330s with 12 Airbus A350s and 12 Boeing 787s, beginning in FY27, allowing for expanded routes and enhanced range capability for future journeys.
