Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to let Transportation Network Companies operate at the passenger terminal

New Options Compliment Gateway’s ‘Just Plane Easy’ Services

MESA, Ariz., 2016-Dec-16 — /Travel PR News/ — Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has revised its ground transportation rules and will allow Transportation Network Companies (TNC’s), such as Lyft and Uber, to operate at the passenger terminal.  With this announcement, passengers arriving at Gateway Airport can be picked up from a designated area in front of the baggage claim terminal.  The rule changes come in response to strong consumer demand and will be effective in time for the start of the busy holiday travel season.

“Gateway Airport is known for being Just Plane Easy from roadway to runway,” said J. Brian O’Neill, A.A.E., Executive Director/CEO of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. “We are pleased to build upon that reputation by adding additional ground transportation options for our customers and employees.”

The new rules, approved last month by the Airport Authority Board of Directors, allow TNC’s to enter into a License Agreement with the Airport and provide services to Gateway Airport customers.  TNC’s are a welcome addition to the extensive ground transportation services already offered at the Airport including taxicab service, ride-share vans, limousines, and car rental services.

Mesa Mayor John Giles, Chairman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority added, “Visitors to the Phoenix East Valley have embraced Arizona’s “sharing economy” and these additional services add to the affordability and convenience of visiting our region.”

“Residents and out of town visitors have already grown accustomed to Lyft’s convenient and affordable rides,” said Donald Griffin Jr., Lyft Business Development Manager, Airports & Venues.  “We appreciate the efforts of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport staff for their desire to expand transportation access so their customers can get to and from the airport safely.”
