2013-04-05 — /travelprnews.com/ — Passengers travelling to Berlin from Sofia Airport were provided with one more alternative. As of today, EasyJet, the low-cost airline, will carry passengers to Berlin (Schönefeld) three times a week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays). Thus, in summer schedule, valid since 31 March, the weekly frequencies on Sofia-Berlin route, together with daily flights of Bulgaria Air and Air Berlin, operating toTegel Airport, increase to 18.
The first inaugural flight along the destination was welcomed with water salute according toSofia Airport’s tradition. The official ceremony was attended by Kristian Krastev – Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Veselin Peykov – Executive Director of Sofia Airport and Peter Voets – Marketing Manager of EasyJet.
The team of Sofia Airport is pleased with the launch of the new direct route. Despite the crisis, considerable effort is being put in for boosting competitiveness, providing more good opportunities to passengers and attracting new partners. The speed and quality of services is improving, new equipment is being supplied and modern infrastructure is being developed. All of these lead to positive results. According to statistics for February, the total count of handled passengers was 237 741, with a56 % increase in domestic lines. There was a growth of 2,1% in cargo and mail shipments. The tonnage handled by cargo aircraft was increased by 18%. In March the number of passengers increased by0,2% as compared to the same period of the last year, and cargo by 4 %.
The ticket price for the new route from Sofia to Berlin (Schönefeld) starts from EUR 41.99 for one-way ticket, all taxes included.
