(PRESS RELEASE) AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 2025-Jul-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Swissport has officially begun cargo operations at its newly constructed, state-of-the-art cargo terminal at Auckland Airport, marking a significant expansion of its footprint in New Zealand and the broader Asia-Pacific region. This move solidifies Swissport’s role as a leading provider of air cargo handling across major aviation hubs in South Korea, Japan, Australia, and now New Zealand.

The 8,500-square-metre Auckland Cargo Centre is the first facility at Auckland Airport with direct airfield access via Checkpoint Delta, enabling faster and more streamlined cargo transfers. Designed for performance and efficiency, the terminal incorporates advanced technologies including Auckland Airport’s largest X-ray machine, modern cargo screening systems, and real-time surveillance via 46 CCTV cameras. The facility’s digital infrastructure is built to ensure seamless cargo tracking and heightened transparency for freight customers.

Joel Greig, General Manager of Cargo Operations for Swissport in New Zealand and Australia, emphasized the significance of this development: “Our team has spent months preparing to raise the bar for air cargo operations in New Zealand. By bringing Swissport’s global know-how and local commitment to Auckland, we aim to set a new benchmark in reliability, speed, and customer collaboration.”

Strategically designed for flexibility and security, the site is certified as a Customs Controlled Area and registered as a Transitional Facility by New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). This allows it to securely handle, inspect, and process import and export goods, including high-value and time-sensitive perishables such as pharmaceuticals, seafood, and fresh produce. The terminal features large cold storage zones supporting both palletised and ULD cargo, aligning with the country’s strong export-driven sectors.

Swissport’s investment comes at a pivotal moment, as global demand for air cargo services continues to climb, driven by growth in South Asia, China, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the accelerating rise of e-commerce. With the new Auckland facility now operational, Swissport is positioned to play a key role in ensuring faster cargo turnaround and dependable service across the region.

Greig added, “Our focus is on delivering measurable improvements—faster processing times, real-time cargo visibility, and consistent service levels. We’re proud to launch this flagship facility and serve our airline and freight forwarding partners with Swissport’s renowned standards.”
