New departures-level drop-off zone at Brussels Airport to open in 2026 with smoother access and expanded capacity
(NEWS) BRUSSELS, Belgium, 2025-Sep-8 — /Travel PR News/ — Brussels Airport has begun preparatory work on a new drop-off zone that will be located behind the Sheraton hotel, directly at the departures hall level. Expected to open by October 2026, the redesigned area will provide smoother and more direct access to the terminal, a larger capacity to handle increasing passenger volumes, and a dedicated assistance point for passengers with reduced mobility. The project will also feature landscaped surroundings with greenery and seating to create a more welcoming start to travellers’ journeys. Until the new zone is ready, the existing drop-off area near car park P1 will remain in use, with car parks P1, P2, and P3 accessible throughout the works.
As part of the first phase of Brussels Airport’s long-term Hub 3.0 development plan, the project includes a new junction on the A201 to provide direct access to the drop-off zone via a dedicated bridge, separating it from other traffic flows for smoother circulation. The current drop-off area, built in 2016, will later be redeveloped into an intermodal hub integrating train, tram, and bus connections. The wider Hub 3.0 programme will also extend departure and arrival halls, introduce a new hotel, and add a green boulevard with park space, with completion scheduled by 2032.
