Maldives, 2014-2-10 — /travelprnews.com/ — Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) together with Tourism Industry of Maldives participated at the Feria Internacional de Turismo, FITUR Fair held in Madrid, Spain from 22-26 January 2014. Fitur is one of the grand global events for the tourist industry and the leading trade show for the Latin American market.
Approximately 9,000 companies from 165 countries and destinations came together at FITUR in order to establish contacts, do business and set out the tourism agenda for the year. In this respect, FITUR has organised an important Hosted Buyers Programme, a series of B2B meetings and a number of specialised forums that will provide a preview of the latest new trends and offer solutions for new challenges facing the industry.
The last staging figures of Fitur indicate 9,979 exhibiting companies from 167 countries/ regions, 116,157 trade participants and 91,082 people from the general public, met during FITUR (2013 edition) to transform leisure into business and business into development. Moreover among the participation figures of note was the presence of 7,212 journalists from 59 countries, a turnout that demonstrates the importance of FITUR on the international circuit of tourism sector events.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and FITUR are organizing the fifth edition of FITUR Green inaugurated by H. E. Dr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of UNWTO, under the theme “Innovative and Sustainable Management: a Commitment to the Tourist”, FiturGreen 2014 will examine the role of organizations, companies, government agencies and tourists in the creation, development and growth of sustainable tourism destinations. This aims to bring innovation in sustainability to the tourism sector in order to enhance the competitiveness of businesses and destinations, and to share current trends on expectations and demands of tourists.
MMPRC together with 17 representatives from 11 companies took part in the exhibition. Maldives delegation was led by Mr. Ahmed Musthafa Mohamed, Minister of State for Tourism. Business meetings with the Spanish and Latin American Travel Trade were held. Moreover destination information was given to the numerous visitors to the Maldives stand during the last two days of the fair. To maximise the presence of the destination, Maldives also participated in the Nomadas travel programme on RNE Radio, which is a National Public Channel in Spain.
10,219 visitors were recorded from Spain by the end of November 2013 (latest available figures) which is an increase of 24.5%.
