Lufthansa Group Embraces Visa’s ‘Click to Pay’ for Seamless and Secure Flight Bookings

(IN SHORT) Lufthansa Group is set to launch the ‘Click to Pay’ online payment option across its airline brands—Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines—starting October 2025. In partnership with Visa, this feature allows passengers to complete purchases using just an email address, without re-entering card details. The service enhances both ease of use and security by using tokenized transactions, which reduce fraud risk by up to 80%. Available to all cardholders, this move marks Lufthansa Group as one of the first airline collectives in Europe to adopt the digital-first payment method.

(PRESS RELEASE) COLOGNE, 2025-Apr-24 — /Travel PR News/ — Starting in October 2025, travelers booking flights with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, or Brussels Airlines will have access to a faster, more secure checkout process thanks to the launch of ‘Click to Pay’ in collaboration with Visa. This innovative online payment solution will be integrated into the Lufthansa Group’s airline booking portals, simplifying the way customers purchase flights.

‘Click to Pay’ eliminates the need for customers to manually enter their credit or debit card information with every purchase. Instead, users simply register their payment card once through Visa or a participating bank, enabling future transactions to be completed using just an email address. Even first-time or guest users can enjoy this streamlined experience. After selecting card payment and confirming the order, any required authentication (such as through a banking app) is handled seamlessly.

The rollout will be available to all passengers across Lufthansa Group’s airlines, regardless of the card issuer. With this move, the Lufthansa Group becomes one of the pioneering airline collectives in Europe to offer this next-generation payment solution.

Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, emphasized: “Enhancing our digital service landscape is key to meeting our customers’ expectations. By teaming up with Visa, we’re taking another step forward in delivering a convenient and future-ready booking experience. ‘Click to Pay’ complements our existing tools and reinforces our goal of giving travelers more control and simplicity.”

Albrecht Kiel, Head of Central Europe at Visa, added: “We’re thrilled to work with Lufthansa Group to bring ‘Click to Pay’ to life for their passengers. Just like contactless payments revolutionized point-of-sale transactions, this innovation brings that same ease and security to online bookings.”

Enhanced Security with Tokenization

In addition to speed and convenience, ‘Click to Pay’ significantly boosts payment security. Instead of using card numbers, the system employs digital “tokens” that are meaningless if intercepted—cutting down on fraud risk by as much as 80% compared to traditional manual card entries. This tokenized process ensures Lufthansa Group guests can book with greater confidence and peace of mind.
