Nairobi, 2013-07-02 — /travelprnews.com/ — National carrier, Kenya Airways, has lauded the Rugby Sevens national team for its sterling performance in the just concluded Rugby World Cup in Moscow, Russia.
The Kenyan team emerged fourth during the tightly contested tournament that was won by the New Zealand team. The team, which is officially sponsored by Kenya Airways, finished as the highest ranked team from Africa, behind New Zealand, England and Fiji.
Congratulating the team, Kenya Airways’ Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director, Dr. Titus Naikuni, said that the airline is proud to be associated with the Kenya National Rugby Sevens team that has consistently flown the Kenyan flag high in rugby pitches across the world, besides being good ambassadors of the Kenya Airways brand.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to continue to contribute towards the team’s success as its official sponsors and very proud of what they achieved over the last season. Our investment in the team has enabled it to register impressive performances in the IRB circuit as well in the just concluded World Cup hence putting Kenya firmly on the World Rugby Map as one of the top teams in the game,” said Dr. Naikuni.
Kenya Airways has been the official sponsor of the national rugby sevens team since 2009, helping mould the team into one of the strongest in IRB sevens rugby.
The team’s gallant performance comes only weeks after the team put up an impressive run during the IRB World Series 2012/13, finishing in fifth position in the final series standings, behind New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji and Samoa.
Following this performance, Kenya Airways presented over Ksh14 million in bonuses to the Kenya Rugby Sevens team to celebrate the performance.
