HMSHost awarded new contract to bring beloved Portland restaurant to PDX
Portland, Ore., 2019-Jul-17 — /Travel PR News/ — Local favorite Screen Door is set to debut at Portland International Airport’s (PDX) Concourse B in 2021. The beloved Portland restaurant brings its culinary creations and Pacific Northwest charm to PDX travelers as part of a new 10-year contract awarded by the Port of Portland to global restaurateur HMSHost, and its Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) joint venture partner Palazzo Concessions. The contract is valued at approximately $75 million.
“We are excited to build on PDX’s long-standing relationship with HMSHost in welcoming this new and beloved local brand to the airport community,” said Acting Director of PDX Terminal Business and Properties Shane Andreasen. “Screen Door is a tourist destination all in itself, and HMSHost’s ability to deliver this landmark brand directly to PDX is going delight our travelers and expand our distinctively Portland sense of place for years to come.”
Screen Door serves Southern fare with Pacific NW food values, emphasizing local and organic produce. This will be the first airport location for the East Burnside spot that has become a must visit foodie destination. Portland travelers can expect a selection of Screen Door’s menu favorites, including its signature specialty Fried Chicken & Waffle served with its famous buttermilk battered fried chicken and a sweet potato waffle. In addition to all-day brunch choices, hearty breakfast favorites will be on hand for early morning travelers.
“Screen Door is a destination in its own right, famously drawing crowds of locals who have been known to wait hours in line to savor the iconic comfort food. With this upcoming PDX opening, local and visiting travelers alike will have a new location right inside the airport to enjoy a taste of this restaurant that has shaped Portland’s booming culinary landscape,” said HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Amy Dunne. “HMSHost is grateful to the Port of Portland for teaming up with us to further enhance the dining experiences that keep PDX a top ranked U.S. airport.”
The new full-service restaurant will have seating for more than 100 guests and will also include a bar with local craft beer and crafty cocktails, along with a convenient grab-and-go market with freshly prepared items for traveler’s to enjoy Screen Door flavors on their flight.
“After over twelve years of serving Portland, we are thrilled to be able to share our dining experience with both locals and guests visiting our city at the Portland Airport. Our restaurant is about capturing and sharing all that is quintessential in our own history and experience of southern foodways layered with what we like to think of as northwest food values. This means eating local, eating fresh from the garden, being passionate about food and about where it comes from. To us, this is a perfect marriage of southern comfort food decadence and valuing and honoring the rich bounty of foods produced by our local farmers here in our region. This meeting place of fried and fresh helps describe our food, but to really understand us is to consider the meaning of hospitality,” said Co-Owner of Screen Door Restaurant Nicole Mouton. “Our business is built on what brings us joy. The idea that it is truly more gratifying to give than to receive and that even after twelve years, we never cease to feel a thrill at having the opportunity to share our food, our story and our history with so many people week after week in this beautiful city that we call home. We are grateful and honored to be among those businesses chosen for the thoughtfully curated gateway to our great city that is Portland International Airport.”
