Hamburg, Germany, 2014-10-13 — /Travel PR News/ — Hamburg Airport now offers a new service to passengers, launched in September 2014 in cooperation with the IT specialist, Materna GmbH. Passengers can now print their boarding passes and drop off their baggage with ease at modern check-in and baggage drop kiosks, saving a lot of time. All that is needed to drop baggage is to scan the boarding pass.
The new facilities have been installed in Terminal 1 and can currently be used by passengers for Lufthansa and easyJet. Other airlines will be included over time. The principle of check-in and baggage drop kiosks being part of the airport infrastructure and available for the use of passengers of various airlines is a world first. In parallel to the kiosks, of course, passengers can still check in and drop their baggage at the counter.
A system has been created which optimises check-in procedures with maximum levels of comfort whilst fulfilling the highest security requirements and aesthetically blending in with the design of the check-in area. “This enables us to offer our passengers better service thanks to reduced waiting times, shorter walking distances, and ease of orientation,” explains Thomas Lueders, Project Leader for Terminal Management at Hamburg Airport. “We are now entering the next phase optimistically, expanding the self-service infrastructure,” he continues.
Background: With around 13.5 million passengers per year and rising, Hamburg is Germany’s fifth-largest airport. To continue fulfilling the increasing demands of passenger handling whilst maintaining the established high level of service, optimising capacity of the check-in infrastructure, the new check-in facilities were developed in cooperation with Materna GmbH and the design team from EVANS Airport Solutions.
