APAC Airline Executive of the Year is the highest award bestowed by CAPA to airline CEOs in the Asia Pacific for their dedication and contribution to the aviation industry and for their outstanding leadership in leading their company to meet and overcome challenges.
Emirsyah Satar was voted “The Most Respected CEO” after succeeding in transforming Garuda Indonesia and carrying out a financial restructuring that saved Garuda from the threat of bankruptcy. Moreover, not only is Emirsyah Satar one of the longest serving CEOs, he managed to turn around the airline and transform it into a profitable business and confidently poised for long-term expansion.
Furthermore, Emirsyah Satar – through the Quantum Leap program – has led the company to accomplish great feats, such as getting Garuda’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) done in 2011, significantly increasing the company’s profits since 2007 till 2013, launched Citilink as a competitive LCC in the highly competitive budget carriers market segment, implement a business expansion program, a service improvement program and a continuous fleet modernization program. Emirsyah Satar also took Garuda into the Skyteam global alliance that broadened the airline’s network and transformed Garuda into a global player.
For these successes, Emirsyah Satar was named one of the most influential CEOs throughout the history of aviation industry, and is considered one of the airline industry’s most powerful leaders in the Asia Pacific region.

Previously in 2013, Garuda Indonesia was named “The World Best Economy Class” and “Best Economy Class Seat”. In addition, Garuda Indonesia once again received the “Passenger Choice Awards 2014” award for the “Best in Region: Asia and Australasia” category for the second consecutive year, from the “Airline Passenger Experience Association” (APEX) – an industry association improving the airline experience – based in New York, US.
