(PRESS RELEASE) Dubai, UAE, 2024-Oct-21 — /Travel PR News/ — Emirates has placed an order for five more Boeing 777 freighters, set to be delivered between 2025 and 2026. This latest addition will bring Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet to a total of 21 Boeing 777 freighters by the end of 2026. Currently, the airline has 14 freighters awaiting delivery, and it has also signed a multi-year lease extension with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise for four of its existing freighters.
To further expand capacity, Emirates is also converting 10 Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft into freighters. These strategic investments reflect Emirates’ commitment to meeting increasing customer demand and Dubai’s growing role as a global logistics hub.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, highlighted the airline’s ongoing focus on providing greater flexibility and connectivity to global shippers, adding, “Emirates’ air cargo services have seen significant demand, bolstered by Dubai’s reputation as a trusted global logistics center and the success of our SkyCargo solutions.”
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, praised Emirates’ continued trust in Boeing’s widebody aircraft, noting that the 777 freighters will support Emirates’ growth and further connect the world.
As Emirates continues to add new freighter aircraft, the airline will also leverage its widebody passenger fleet, including 777s, A350s, and A380s, to ensure efficient global cargo transport. Additionally, the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) is expected to further enhance Dubai’s capacity to handle up to 12 million tonnes of cargo annually, supporting its vision of becoming the world’s top multi-modal logistics hub.
Emirates plans to finalize decisions on its future freighter fleet for 2028/29 by the end of this year, with Boeing 777-8F and Airbus A350-1000F as potential candidates.
