Edelweiss Air Launches Twice-Weekly Nonstop Flights Connecting Halifax Stanfield and Zurich

(IN SHORT) Edelweiss Air has commenced non-stop service between Halifax Stanfield and Zurich, marking both the airport’s newest international carrier partnership and the first time Zurich appears on its route map. Operated twice weekly on Airbus A340-300 aircraft with 314 seats across three cabins, the flights will take approximately seven hours. Halifax joins Calgary and Vancouver as the only Canadian cities served by Edelweiss. The new link not only expands travel options for Atlantic Canadians but also offers European visitors streamlined access to Nova Scotia. As part of the Lufthansa Group and in collaboration with SWISS and Star Alliance partners, Edelweiss passengers benefit from seamless code-share connections throughout Europe and beyond. Provincial and municipal leaders highlighted the route’s potential to boost tourism, open new markets for local businesses, and strengthen international ties. Tickets are now available via swiss.com, lufthansa.com, and travel agencies, with detailed schedules published on the airline’s website.

(PRESS RELEASE) NOVA SCOTIA, Canada, 2025-Jul-4 — /Travel PR News/ — A milestone in transatlantic aviation unfolds today at Halifax Stanfield International Airport as Edelweiss Air inaugurates its inaugural non-stop flights to Zurich, Switzerland. This launch not only introduces a fresh airline partner to Halifax but also adds Zurich as a brand-new destination on the airport’s expanding global network.

Joyce Carter, President and CEO of Halifax International Airport Authority, celebrated the debut: “With today’s inaugural Edelweiss service, we’re forging a direct link between Atlantic Canada and Europe. This route enriches travel choices for our region and invites more Europeans to explore Nova Scotia’s charms. We’re delighted to welcome Edelweiss aboard and anticipate significant advantages for our local communities and visitors alike.”

Halifax now joins Calgary and Vancouver as one of only three Canadian gateways serviced by Edelweiss. The carrier will operate two weekly flights using its Airbus A340-300s—each accommodating 314 passengers across business, Economy Max, and Economy cabins—covering the approximately seven-hour journey.

Patrick Heymann, Chief Commercial Officer of Edelweiss, noted, “Our new Halifax-Zurich route complements our existing western Canada services perfectly. It brings Europe’s cultural and natural wonders closer to Canadians on the East Coast, while Atlantic Canadians gain effortless access to Switzerland and convenient onward connections throughout Europe via Zurich’s hub.”

Edelweiss—Switzerland’s leisure airline and sister carrier to Swiss International Air Lines—joins the Halifax fold as a member of the Lufthansa Group. Renowned for blending comfort with Swiss hospitality, Edelweiss takes its name from the iconic Alpine flower and operates extensive holiday routes worldwide.

Thanks to code-share partnerships within the Star Alliance network—including Air Canada—and affiliation with SWISS and the broader Lufthansa family (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, Brussels Airlines), travelers can easily transfer to dozens of destinations across Europe and beyond, cementing Zurich’s status as a premier intercontinental hub.

On behalf of Nova Scotia’s Minister of Growth and Development, Ministerial Assistant John A. MacDonald remarked, “Introducing a direct link to Zurich boosts tourism, opens new market opportunities for our businesses, and strengthens cultural ties with Switzerland. We eagerly anticipate an influx of visitors to our province.”

Halifax Regional Municipality Mayor Andy Fillmore added, “Today marks a significant chapter for Halifax. Edelweiss’s direct Zurich flights unlock fresh avenues for tourism, trade, and international collaboration. We’re excited for what lies ahead and proud to see our city on the world stage.”

Seats on Edelweiss’s twice-weekly Halifax–Zurich service are available now through swiss.com, lufthansa.com, or any travel agency. For further details, visit flyedelweiss.com.
