Discover Airlines strengthens Munich and Frankfurt operations with broader Nordic program and record number of weekly flights

Discover Airlines is continuing the successful expansion of its Nordic services and is adding flights to Ivalo in Finnish Lapland to its winter schedule for the first time.

(IN SHORT) Discover Airlines is expanding its Nordic network by adding a new winter route from Munich to Ivalo in Finnish Lapland, operating weekly from mid-December to mid-April, while also introducing new summer services from Frankfurt to Bodø and from Munich to Evenes in response to sustained demand for northern destinations. The additions strengthen the airline’s position at Munich Airport and bring its total Nordic offering to up to 15 weekly flights across six destinations in Iceland, Norway, and Finnish Lapland, with several routes available year-round. All flights are bookable through Discover Airlines, Lufthansa, and German travel partners, as the carrier continues to develop its leisure-focused network as part of the Lufthansa Group.

(PRESS RELEASE) FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany, 2026-Feb-2 — /Travel PR News/ — Discover Airlines is further expanding its Nordic network and introducing a new winter destination to its schedule with weekly flights from Munich to Ivalo in Finnish Lapland. Beginning in mid-December and running through mid-April, the leisure carrier will operate a direct service every Wednesday, marking the first time Ivalo has been included in its winter program.

Located deep in northern Finland, Ivalo serves as a gateway to the vast wilderness along the Ivalojoki River and is widely regarded as a prime destination for winter activities in pristine natural surroundings. The region’s polar night during the colder months also makes it particularly well suited for travelers hoping to experience the northern lights.

Beyond the new winter route, Discover Airlines is also strengthening its summer offering to northern Europe with additional services from both Frankfurt and Munich. New weekly flights from Frankfurt to Bodø in Norway and from Munich to Evenes will complement existing connections already operating from the opposite hub. These additions reflect the airline’s ongoing strategy of growing its presence in the Nordic region in response to consistently strong demand for direct services.

With the introduction of Evenes from Munich in summer and Ivalo in winter, Discover Airlines is further reinforcing its position at Munich Airport, where it is already the largest leisure airline. The expanded program underlines the carrier’s commitment to developing its Munich base alongside its Frankfurt operations.

Overall, Discover Airlines will operate its most extensive Nordic program to date, offering up to 15 weekly flights to six destinations across Iceland, Norway, and Finnish Lapland, with several routes operating year-round.

All services are available for booking via discover-airlines.com, lufthansa.com, and through German tour operators and travel agencies.

The Nordic network includes multiple connections from Frankfurt and Munich, covering Evenes, Alta, Kittilä, Reykjavik, Bodø, and Ivalo, with specific seasonal schedules and operating days depending on the route.

As part of the Lufthansa Group, Discover Airlines positions itself as a quality leisure carrier focused on comfortable travel experiences, seamless connectivity through Frankfurt and Munich hubs, and access to a broad global network. Headquartered in Frankfurt, the airline currently operates a fleet of 30 aircraft and employs around 2,100 staff, serving a wide range of holiday destinations worldwide.
