Types of bear watching tours you can get with Alaskan Gamefisher

Fly-in or Boat-in Bear Viewing Tours

One of the most exciting ways for bear watching in Alaska is with the help of remote fly-in or boat-in tours by Alaskan Gamefisher. Their guides keep track of where the bears are throughout the summer and take you to the best spots. These trips are usually expedition-style. You’ll be given gear like tall rain boots or hip waders and will follow your guide to where the bears are. Depending on the time of year, you might see bears fishing, resting, raising cubs, or digging for clams. These trips are full-day experiences, with about an hour of flying and 5 to 6 hours watching the bears.

Bear Viewing Lodges

These lodges focus on bear viewing from morning to evening, making them great for photographers or bear lovers who want to see different behaviours. Since you’re staying in the same place for several days, you’ll get to know the local bears. You can often see them from your room or cabin, but you’ll also go on excursions with your guide. These lodges can be found in Lake Clark National Park, Katmai National Park (Brooks Lodge), and Kodiak.

Average cost: Around $1,800 per person for an overnight trip.

Yacht-based Bear Viewing Tours

These tours are similar to lodges in that they allow you several days to see bears. A typical day starts with breakfast on the boat, then a skiff ride to shore for bear viewing. These boats cruise the coasts of Katmai and Lake Clark and carry 6 to 8 guests for 4 to 7 nights. Some boats also offer other activities like kayaking or fishing.
