A very special day for the gentle giants.
2013-02-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — Each year in Thailand, March 13 is designated National Elephant Day, a day to pay respect to this national symbol and to draw attention to the importance of elephants in Thai culture, as well as to the challenges that still exist in elephant conservation today.
While a day in the life of an elephant at Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle might not be too taxing, on National Elephant Day, all of our elephants are given a holiday. The team at the Camp and themahouts from the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation also take time out on this day to pay their respects to these gentle giants who make the Camp their home. And it’s the perfect time for guests at the Camp to spend more time interacting with the elephants, as well as to witness a special ceremony blessing the animals for the year ahead.
The elephants’ itinerary this National Elephant Day will begin with a relaxing morning. After breakfast, guests have the opportunity to join the elephants at the river for a leisurely bathing time, and for those who don’t mind getting wet, they’re welcome to jump in and splash around with the elephants at leisure too.
After making sure they’re extra clean, the elephants will then be led to a secret location in the peninsula for a very special Buddhist ceremony to banish bad fortune and bless them with good fortune for the year to come.
Ceremony completed, it’s time for the highlight of the elephants’ day – a buffet lunch including all of their favourite items, such as bananas, papaya, watermelon, cucumber, and much, much more. And for the guests? The chance to enjoy their own special National Elephant Day lunch, again at a secret location on the peninsula, surrounded by nature. And although they’ll be dining in close proximity to the elephants’ table, they get to dine at a safe distance. After all, elephants are known for being rather messy eaters, and the do like to play with their food!
