Hi BizWiz
I want to visit Canada to see my boyfriend. What do I need to come there? And what papers do I need to visit him? I am from the Philippines.
Thanks,
Cherry
Hi Cherry,
That’s a long trip indeed, but one I hope you’ll find is worth every mile.
After checking with the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website, I think I can help you. These are the basic requirements that you’ll need:
- A valid travel document, such as a passport
- To be in good health;
- Proof to satisfy an immigration officer that you have ties, such as a job, home and family, that will take you back to the Philippines;
- Proof to satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit; and
- Enough money for your stay. The amount of money that you might need can vary with the circumstances of the visit, how long you will stay and whether you will stay in a hotel or with friends or relatives.
The website says that the Philippines is a country from which residents need a visa to come to Canada. To obtain that, follow the instructions in this application package.
You may also need a medical certificate and/or a letter of invitation. For further clarification, I strongly suggest you get in touch with the closest Canadian visa office or Canadian consulate to where you live.
The BizWiz is an old romantic at heart, so I hope this all works out for you.
All the best,
