Budapest Airport trials self-service baggage drop-off desks

BUDAPEST, Hungary, 2019-Aug-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Self-service baggage drop-off desks were commissioned by Budapest Airport at Liszt Ferenc International Airport. Thanks to the system currently under trial operation, the process of checking in bags becomes faster and more convenient for passengers.

The trial operation of 2-2 new self-service baggage drop-off desks is already underway in the terminals of Liszt Ferenc International Airport. The advantage of the service is that passengers flying with any of the airlines joining this new system can quickly and conveniently check in their baggage.

The essence of the system is that after scanning the barcode on the boarding pass (printed or electronic), passengers themselves can print out the bag tag and attach it to the bag they would like to check in. Subsequently, the bag can be simply checked in at the automated desk.

The first airline to join the system at the airport is Wizz Air, the biggest carrier in Budapest, for the time being only with a limited number of flights per day. The number of airlines offering self-service baggage drop-off will increase already in the trial period, and it is foreseen that more and more carriers will be joining the system going forward, ensuring this option for a continuously increasing number of passengers of departing flights.

“Enhancing the quality of passenger services is of primary importance for us. In addition to making baggage check-in faster, self-service baggage drop-off also makes the process more convenient for our passengers,” said Péter Huszka, chief operating officer of Budapest Airport. He added, “After the trial period, self-service baggage drop-off will be developed extensively in the terminals, and we hope that an increasing number of carriers will be joining this system known and established all over the world.”

Budapest Airport over recent months invested more than a hundred thousand euros into this development effort, working together with the supplier Materna Gmbh of Germany.

The airport operator’s information staff is at the service of passengers on the spot.
