Watch Top Gun on the Big Screen at Newquay Airport
Event Cornwall and Skylight Cinema are working together for the second consecutive year in conjunction with Skybus and Newquay Cornwall Airport as part of the Outdoor Screenings Season.
The two thematic cult films are the 1980 comedic classic Airplane! on Friday, July 20, followed by the 1986 film that brought Tom Cruise his fame, Top Gun, on Friday, September 14.
The unique venue for these aviation filled films is in a hangar alongside a Skybus aircraft.
Skylight’s Toby Budd said: “We’re very excited to be working again with Skybus and Newquay Cornwall Airport for these screenings.
“It’s another brilliant opportunity to view these cult classic films in an individual and specialised setting that has previously proven to be highly popular.
“And you can’t get any closer to the aviation theme of the films than being in the airplane hangar itself.”
Airplane! boasts many famous lines including the Lesley Nielsen quotes: ‘don’t call me Shirley’ and ‘it’s a large building containing lots of planes, but that’s not important right now’.
Top Gun is being aired for a second year running for the Outdoor Screenings Season following its successful sell out showing last year.
Shelley Fletcher, interim marketing manager for Skybus and the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, said, “We’re really pleased to be able to host these two great films in partnership with Newquay Cornwall Airport.
“Our Skybus hangar is a unique environment to watch a film from and I am sure anyone coming along will have a great experience.”
Al Titterington, managing director of Newquay Cornwall Airport, said: “It’s great that we have been asked to support these film nights at the airport again. It was hugely successful last year and Airplane! is a great addition to the schedule.”
Gates open at 8pm with the film starting at 9pm on both viewings.
