(PRESS RELEASE) BANGKOK, 2025-Jun-5 — /Travel PR News/ — Anantara Chiang Mai Resort invites guests to embark on a sensory journey through taste, time, and tradition with the launch of its exclusive afternoon tea collaboration, Whispers of the East. Running from 1 June to 31 October 2025, this unique experience is crafted in partnership between Executive Chef Natruthai Petsuwan and third-generation Chef Pongsakorn Jiarasatit of the Michelin-Plated Jia Tong Heng. The indulgence is available daily from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at The Verandah at 1921 House.
Set against the shaded verandah of the former British Consulate, overlooking the tranquil Mae Ping River, afternoon tea at Anantara Chiang Mai is a cherished tradition. Each season, a new interpretation of this classic British custom is introduced — infused with tropical flavors, local inspirations, and, for this summer, an elegant Teochew twist.
Celebrating Chiang Mai’s Chinese Culinary Heritage
Whispers of the East pays tribute to Chiang Mai’s rich Chinese culinary legacy. Chef Pongsakorn of Jia Tong Heng, one of the city’s most renowned and beloved Chinese restaurants, joins forces with Chef Natruthai to transform cherished family recipes into a curated afternoon tea experience. Jia Tong Heng, a name synonymous with family celebrations and community feasts for nearly 70 years, provides the foundation for this extraordinary collaboration.
Guests will delight in dim sum-style savouries, such as steamed buns filled with slow-cooked Moo Hong pork, and timeless sweets like ow nee pae kuay cake — made from Chef Pongsakorn’s grandmother’s original recipe. A striking Chinese red date Mont Blanc adds an unexpected touch to the traditional tea experience. Also included are classic scones with clotted cream and preserves, as well as house-made tropical gelato and sorbet, offering a refreshing contrast to the rich flavours of the tea.

The indulgence is served on vintage blue-and-white porcelain, often reserved for special occasions, and each bite is thoughtfully paired with premium teas and coffees. The selection includes sustainably sourced blends from TWG and local Chiang Mai roaster Monsoon Tea, with highlights such as Tha Pae Gate and Mountain Breeze Oolong.
A Heartfelt Collaboration
“Anantara takes great pride in celebrating the cultural richness of each destination, and cuisine is at the heart of that celebration,” says Executive Chef Natruthai Petsuwan. “Jia Tong Heng is just down the road, and it’s an honor to collaborate with such a revered local institution to craft something so meaningful for our guests.”
Chef Pongsakorn Jiarasatit adds, “As an ambassador of Sino-Thai cuisine, it’s a privilege to reinterpret my ancestors’ recipes for Anantara’s guests. This collaboration is close to my heart, and I hope it marks the first of many.”
