Airports Company South Africa works with the Department of Health and the South African Civil Aviation Authority to monitor Ebola

Johannesburg, 2014-8-14 — /Travel PR News/ — Following the Ebola virus outbreak, Airports Company South Africa is working closely with the Department of Health and the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) to vigilantly monitor the situation and to ensure that the correct measures are taken to effectively protect our airports and our airport users.

As part of the screening measures in place, Airports Company South Africa’s hub airport, O.R. Tambo International, has thermal scanners that are managed by the Department of Health to detect high body temperature. King Shaka International and Cape Town International are currently using other screening measures that include questionnaires and visual inspection.

Where isolation is required, the company’s international airports have quarantine facilities where susceptible passengers are kept, prior to their transfer for further treatment.

The safety of passengers and, in this case, the country as a whole remains high priority. Airports Company South Africa commits to cooperate with any enhancements that the Department of Health deems fit to protect against possible infection.

For further information, contact Prince Hamnca from the Department of Health on prince.hamnca@gauteng.gov.za or 082 454 6742 or Kabelo Ledwaba from the SACAA on LedwabaK@caa.co.za or 083 451 2654.
