2013-06-11 — /travelprnews.com/ — With the start of the summer season, airberlin is offering even more Sansibar meals on board: From 15th June, airberlin is offering an extended selection of the popular Sansibar meals on board its flights. Alongside the Sansibar gourmet menu options, guests will then also be able to enjoy snacks such as tapas, tarte flambée, hot paninis and various hot and cold wraps. These are available on board all short-haul and medium-haul flights of 90 minutes or more, without the need to pre-order. Herbert Seckler, founder and manager of Sansibar, has developed these recipes especially for airberlin flight guests in line with the gourmet food typically associated with Sansibar.
Thomas Ney, Chief Product Officer airberlin: “airberlin has been offering delicacies from Sansibar on board its flights since 2007. Thanks to this unique cooperation with Sansibar, we have been able to set new worldwide standards for in-flight catering. In addition, we continue to be the only airline in Germany which offers guests in Economy Class the opportunity to purchase hot menu options without the need to pre-order.”
Sansibar’s owner, Herbert Seckler: “For most people, their holiday begins above the clouds – and a great holiday also includes great food. Seeing as that’s something we have in abundance at Sansibar, it was time to provide our long term partner airberlin with even more hot and cold specialities from our beach kitchen.”
Most of the gourmet menu options sold in 2012 were purchased on board on the spur of the moment. Around 20 to 25 percent were pre-ordered. The most popular menu option continues to be the curried sausage dish known as Currywurst. Currently a big variety of Sansibar gourmet menu options can be ordered in advance for short-haul and medium-haul flights of 60 minutes or more at airberlin.com or through a travel agent. The snacks, as well as a reduced selection of gourmet menu options, are available for purchase directly on board short-haul and medium-haul flights of 90 minutes or more. The extended selection can be pre-ordered up to 48 hours before departure.
Selected wines from the famous Sansibar wine cellar and ice cream made to a recipe that using only fresh milk (as opposed to the dried milk commonly found in other ice creams) add the finishing touches to the Sansibar gourmet experience above the clouds.
