airberlin the first German airline to serve double cheeseburger on board

BERLIN, 2015-12-17 — /Travel PR News/ — airberlin recently announced its new connections to Boston, Dallas and San Francisco. The company is the first German airline to serve a double cheeseburger at an altitude of 10,000 metres, to compensate all those who currently are not winging their way to the motherland of burgers.

Prepared fresh every day, the double cheeseburger comes with two beef patties and slices of mature West Country Cheddar tucked away in a bread roll with ketchup and mustard. The burger contains 100 grams of meat, 282 kcal and weighs around 184 grams. It costs €7.

Pizza lovers will also find what their hearts desire: for just €5 they can purchase a hearty flatbread with spicy mustard cream, fresh boiled ham and Emmental cheese. Holstein rye-wheat bread with salami has been recalled to the menu by popular demand alongside the ‘Kecke Ecke’ – a pretzel roll with pumpkin seeds, herbal cream cheese, Grünland cheese, a dress salad bouquet and grilled pepper.

“Serving crisp food at cruising altitude is an art form! The pressure on board is lower, and the air in the cabin is extremely dry. Humidity on the ground is usually between 50 and 70 percent, but in the aircraft it is just 5 to 10 percent. We searched high and low until we found a provider whose bread rolls satisfied our high quality standards for in-flight meals”, explains Thomas Ney, Senior Vice President Hospitality and Operations at airberlin.

Passengers can purchase these snacks on board all short and medium-haul flights lasting over 60 minutes. Guests with a more substantial appetite can look forward to a gourmet menu from Sylter Sansibar. The curried sausage has retained its status as the most popular dish, selling roughly 15,000 portions last year – and the numbers are rising. Economy Class guests can pre-order gourmet meals on all long-haul flights. A large selection of Sansibar gourmet meals can be pre-ordered online at airberlin.com, in our Contact Centres on +49 30/ 3434 3434 (for the cost of a local call), and in travel agencies.
