Aberdeen, Scotland, 2014-12-3 — /Travel PR News/ — A Giving Tree with a twist has just been decorated at Aberdeen International Airport, to raise both money and awareness for a local charity this festive season.
The airport worked alongside charity partner Friends of ANCHOR to create the concept that is hoped will bring some festive cheer for cancer patients and their families.
The Christmas tree is decorated with specially designed tags which feature a ‘text to donate’ number as well as a dedicated message space for passengers to write words of encouragement or festive wishes to the staff and patients at the ANCHOR Unit who will be spending Christmas in hospital.
It is hoped that passengers will first make a festive donation before writing their message. The tags will be hand delivered by the Friends of ANCHOR team to the Unit to be put on display over Christmas.
Sarah Rochester is the airport Media and Communications Manager. She said: “At this time of year shops, homes and even airports begin to show signs of Christmas around the corner. Decorations go up and thoughts turn to gifts and planning. We have been proud to work with Friends of ANCHOR all year after our staff team voted them our 2014/15 charity partner and when it came to getting the terminal looking festive we wanted to put some of that to good use. We hope that passengers and airport staff alike will take a few minutes out of their day to spare a thought for those for whom Christmas may not be filled with cheer.”
Sarah-Jane Hogg, PR & Fundraising Manager, at Friends of ANCHOR comments; “We are incredibly grateful to the team at AIA for setting up this lovely opportunity for passengers to send their well wishes and encouragement to those attending the ANCHOR Unit over Christmas. Of course, with the chance to donate passengers can help make a difference for North-east cancer patients and their loved ones who will be facing a difficult time this festive season.”
People wishing to donate should text ‘LIFE24 £5’ TO 70070 to make a £5 festive donation and the ‘Giving Tree’ can be found in the main airport concourse, before security and outside the newly opened Joe’s Café.
