A Unique Celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Piri Reis Map at Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet

Historic cartographer inspires ceramics exhibition December 22-31, 2012

Istanbul at Sultanahmet, Turkey – 2012-12-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — Set in the historical peninsula, Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet continues to focus on Ottoman art and support local artists as well as craftsmen with various cultural activities. In the honour of UNESCO’s celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Piri Reis map in 2013, Four Seasons welcomes the new year with a special ceramics exhibition and workshop in cooperation with Iznik Classics.

One of Turkey’s most popular ceramic craftsman, Fahri Cetinkaya, has prepared a 90-piece ceramics collection, completed in 16 months with inspiration from the world-known cartographer Piri Reis (1465/70-1553), who is primarily known today for his maps and charts collected in his Kitab-ı Bahriye (Book of Navigation).

This unique collection will be displayed at Four Seasons from December 22 until December 31, 2012, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm daily at no cost to the public. In addition to the exhibition, the guests may enjoy the opportunity to meet the artist and participate in his workshops during this period.

This exhibition is a great excuse to plan the rest of the day discovering more history just a few steps away. This can be turned into a time for families and friends to enjoy the last days of the year in the enchanting surroundings of the Old City.
