(NEWS) ZURICH, 2025-Nov-24 — /Travel PR News/ — Swissport has strengthened its position in Europe’s air-cargo corridor with the launch of a new second-line cargo facility at Amsterdam Schiphol, according to their press release, adding significant capacity at one of the continent’s busiest logistics hubs. The newly opened Terminal 12 expands the company’s Schiphol footprint by an additional 5,000 m², pushing its total cargo handling space to 40,000 m². That figure is set to grow further to 43,800 m² by early 2026 as Swissport continues investing in infrastructure to support rising volumes across the region’s “Golden Triangle” of Amsterdam, Paris, and Frankfurt. Fully operational since October and running 24/7, the new terminal is designed to meet strong import demand and improve reliability for airlines and freight forwarders operating through Schiphol.
Swissport leaders describe the expansion as part of a long-term strategy to ensure global cargo connectivity. Dirk Goovaerts, CEO for Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Global Cargo Chair, emphasized the company’s ambition to remain the most trusted, technology-driven cargo partner worldwide, pointing to recent expansions in Liège and Manchester and new partnerships in JFK and China as part of a growing global network. Locally, Managing Director Cargo for the Netherlands, Jeroen Giling, said the additional space will ease pressure on existing warehouses, support safer and more efficient operations, and help the company manage growing import flows.
Terminal 12’s primary role is to handle import shipments, a move that is expected to streamline cargo flows across all Swissport facilities in Amsterdam. The terminal complements recent upgrades made in 2024 and 2025, including the installation of additional loading bridges, hundreds of caster deck positions, and dedicated fast lanes connecting aircraft to delivery trucks. These investments have collectively tripled Swissport’s loading capacity and reduced turnaround times for customers.
Sustainability remains another focal point of the expansion. Terminal 12 is set to integrate with Swissport’s long-running “Milk Run” consolidation programme, which pools shipments from multiple forwarders to reduce road congestion and emissions around Schiphol. By aligning the new terminal with these environmental initiatives, Swissport aims to enhance both operational efficiency and its sustainability performance.
Situated in the centre of Europe’s logistics powerhouse, the extended Schiphol operation draws on more than 70 years of cargo-handling experience and now encompasses three fully operational terminals staffed by over 300 specialists. The enhanced infrastructure positions Swissport to support a diverse freight portfolio — from pharmaceuticals to perishables and high-value goods — while reinforcing its reputation as a dependable and innovative partner for airlines and logistics clients throughout Europe and beyond.
