(PRESS RELEASE) BUDAPEST, 2025-Apr-9 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, recognized as EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airline*, is excited to announce that 7,902 runners participated in this year’s Wizz Air Cluj-Napoca Marathon, reflecting a growing passion for this iconic event. The men’s podium was captured by Benard Kitur, Nicolai Gorbusco, and Silviu Stoica, while the women’s podium featured Ruth Matebo, Anca Faiciuc, and Marija Vrajić.
As the long-term title sponsor of these popular running events, Wizz Air views them as more than just races – they embody the airline’s core values of accessibility, affordability, and simplicity. Much like running, a sport that demands nothing more than a pair of shoes and determination, Wizz Air provides an economical and straightforward way for people to explore the world without compromising on experience or breaking the bank.
Participation in the 14th edition of the marathon soared by 43% this year, with over 7,900 runners from 30 countries gathering at Cluj Arena’s athletics track and Central Park. Competitors tackled six distinct courses tailored for various race formats, including family, 4 km, 10 km, 4×10.5 km relay, half marathon (21.1 km), and full marathon (42.2 km) distances.
The marathon is a pivotal event in the WIZZ Run Series 2025, which invites runners from across Europe to compete for exciting prizes such as “All You Can Fly” (AYCF) subscriptions** and cash rewards. Runners—who must be at least 18 years old and considered amateurs***—earn points based on distance, with 1 point awarded per kilometre covered. At the series’ conclusion, the runner with the highest total points in each category will win four AYCF passes, while second and third place finishers will receive €1,000 and €800 WIZZ value vouchers respectively.
Anastasia Novak, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, commented, “We are thrilled to be a part of Cluj-Napoca’s premier running event, one of the most popular in Romania. As an airline dedicated to offering affordable travel options, we believe that an active, healthy lifestyle should be accessible to everyone. Our involvement in the marathon not only inspires our crew and passengers across Romania and Europe but also reinforces our commitment to breaking down barriers—be it through running or low-cost air travel. Today, 24 of our pilots, cabin crew, and office colleagues will be among the many at the start line.”
Every runner at this year’s event receives a 20 EUR Wizz Air travel voucher, redeemable on a flight of their choice. The Wizz Air Cluj-Napoca Marathon stands as a celebration that unites both professional and amateur runners from home and abroad, fostering a healthy lifestyle and promoting large-scale participation in running sports, all in line with the highest European standards for athletic events.
* According to CAPA – Centre for Aviation Awards for Excellence 2024
** Launched in August 2024, the “All You Can Fly” membership offers flights to nearly 200 destinations in over 50 countries on 800 WIZZ routes for a fee of €599 for a 12-month period.
