(PRESS RELEASE) SAN ANTONIO, TX, 2026-Mar-3 — /Travel PR News/ — Downtown San Antonio welcomes a major new hospitality landmark with the opening of The Monarch San Antonio, Curio Collection by Hilton, a $185 million lifestyle hotel rising 17 stories above the reimagined Hemisfair District. More than a decade in development, the property introduces 200 guest rooms and 28 suites just steps from the River Walk and the Alamo, positioning itself as both a refined urban retreat and a catalyst in the city’s continued downtown evolution.

Owned and operated by Zachry Hospitality, whose family ties to San Antonio span more than a century, the hotel represents both a personal and strategic investment in the city’s future. Managing Director Rick Slutter emphasized that the project was approached with a sense of stewardship, honoring the history of the site while contributing a contemporary gathering place designed for modern travelers.

The Monarch San Antonio, Curio Collection by Hilton

The Monarch joins Curio Collection by Hilton, Hilton’s portfolio of individually distinctive properties selected for their connection to place and character. Brand leader Brooke Thomas noted that the addition strengthens the collection’s global footprint as it approaches 200 hotels worldwide.

Designed by San Antonio-based Overland Partners with interiors by The Gettys Group and KBAA, the hotel draws creative inspiration from the annual migration of monarch butterflies through Texas. Architectural curves and sculptural forms symbolize transformation, with each floor reflecting a stage of metamorphosis. Flowing lines, regionally sourced art and nature-inspired furnishings create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, particularly where the building embraces the adjacent park.

The lobby is defined by soaring vertical wood ribbons, waterfall lighting and a floating staircase that together create a sense of movement and lift. Lounge-style seating areas balance intimacy with openness, shaping an atmosphere suited to both social gathering and quiet retreat.

Guest accommodations emphasize comfort and thoughtful detail. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the park, while SFERRA Italian linens, blackout curtains, ergonomic workspaces and Platinum Vertuo Nespresso machines elevate the in-room experience. Bathrooms feature earth-toned finishes and Texas-based Niven Morgan amenities, alongside integrated technology and interactive tablets designed to make the stay seamless and intuitive.

Culinary programming is central to the hotel’s identity under the direction of Executive Chef Jae H. Lee. Three distinct dining venues anchor the property:

Oak & Amber, located off the lobby, centers around a mesquite-and-oak hearth fueled by Texas post oak and pecan wood. The dinner-forward menu highlights Gulf seafood and premium meats, including a 28-day dry-aged Texas ribeye presented via a Prime Rib Trolley carved tableside. A raw bar, formal caviar service and a wine list exceeding 300 labels complement the experience.

The Monarch San Antonio, Curio Collection by Hilton – Aleteo

Aleteo, the rooftop restaurant and bar 17 stories above downtown, takes its name from the Spanish word for “flutter.” Inspired by Yucatán cuisine, the menu features aguachiles, ceviches, tartares and more than a dozen house-made salsas, alongside mezcal-focused cocktails. Corn is ground in-house on volcanic stone for freshly prepared tortillas, and both indoor and outdoor seating provide panoramic city views.

The Nectarie Café offers a lighter daytime counterpart, serving La Colombe coffee, Rare Tea Co. loose-leaf teas and a pastry program rooted in French technique with German and Texan influences. A take-out window extends service to park visitors and downtown residents.

Wellness amenities include a full-service spa with hydrothermal experiences, infrared sauna sessions, cold plunges and IV vitamin drips. A 550-square-foot fitness studio features Reaxing neuroactive training equipment, while a third-floor pool deck with cabanas offers a tranquil escape above the city.

The hotel also introduces 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including the 5,000-square-foot Meridian Ballroom. Eight flexible venues equipped with advanced technology are designed to accommodate corporate functions, weddings and large-scale gatherings.

Anchoring both the hotel and the surrounding park is La Mariposa, a $2 million public art installation featuring a three-winged stained-glass pavilion illuminated by more than three miles of integrated LED lighting. Visible from the rooftop and across downtown, the installation evolves with seasons and celebrations, creating a new civic landmark within the Hemisfair District.

As part of Hilton Honors, guests booking directly receive access to member benefits, including flexible Points and money options, exclusive discounts and digital tools via the Hilton Honors app.

Now open with rates beginning at $398 per night, The Monarch San Antonio positions itself as a defining new addition to the city’s luxury hospitality landscape.
