VisitGuernsey and Jersey Tourism announce joint Channel Islands Heritage Festival for 2015

JERSEY, 2014-8-22 — /Travel PR News/ — Following the success of the 2014 Guernsey Heritage Festival, VisitGuernsey are delighted to announce a joint Channel Islands Heritage Festival for 2015 with Jersey Tourism.

A five week long pan-Channel Island Festival (3rd April – 11th May) is being planned for 2015 to attract visitors from the UK and Europe to join in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation in 1945.

This joint venture is a first of its kind between VisitGuernsey and Jersey Tourism. After receiving positive feedback from this year’s Guernsey Festival, Jersey Tourism were keen to join forces for 2015.

Director of Marketing and Tourism, Mike Hopkins said,

“The two teams have been working on possible joint initiatives since the beginning of the year, and both parties are extremely pleased with the Heritage Festival collaboration and the opportunity to jointly promote the Channel Islands in such a positive way”.

Director of Jersey Tourism, David de Carteret added,

“The interest in the 70th anniversary of the Liberation is enormous  among  potential UK and European visitiors and these events provide an opportunity for us to work together on a regional tourism project to support all of the Channel Islands and hopefully get Summer 2015 off to a good start ”

Over the five-week festival, coastal castles will be brought to life, doors will be opened on wartime bunkers and historic towers and the islands will put the flags out for Liberation Day. Many events will be held at heritage sites around the islands, with much to do and see throughout the Festival, from Liberation Celebrations at the Jersey War Tunnels to a re-enactment of what life was like in wartime Guernsey at St Peter Port’s Castle Cornet. Special commemorative events will also take place in the Bailiwick isles of Alderney, Sark and Herm who each have their own unique story to tell.

The festival will be marketed through all media channels with a joint budget of £150k and through collaboration with carrier and tour operator partners to promote two centre breaks and encourage interisland travel.
