Demand for On-Airport Parking at Boston Logan Makes Available Spaces Exceedingly Scarce
Travelers advised to leave cars at home and take Mass Transit

BOSTON – 2012-11-13 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today advised travelers that on-airport parking at Boston Logan International Airport is exceedingly scarce because of high demand as business travel peaks the week before Thanksgiving. Supply will be critically low through Thursday, November 15, 2012.

“Please consider leaving your car at home during this busy travel period,’’ said Director of Aviation Edward C. Freni. “ No one wants to miss a flight because they could not park and travelers who have the option of using public transportation or Logan Express should take advantage of those options.”  Demand for on-airport parking will peak this week as business travelers schedule last minute trips before the holiday.

To help reduce demand for on airport parking, Massport is encouraging travelers to consider MBTA Blue Line or Silver Line service. Silver Line Service from Logan to the South Boston Seaport District and South Station is free. For suburban travelers Massport is offering reduced parking rates at its Logan Express locations. Logan Express parking lots are located in Braintree, Framingham, Peabody and Woburn. Full-service bus terminals and parking are available at each location. The supply of on-airport parking will rebound during the week of Thanksgiving as families travel for the holiday.

Boston Logan, 15 minutes from the intersection of Route 128 and I-90 and five minutes from downtown Boston, serves as the gateway to the New England region and offers nonstop service to 72 domestic and 31 international destinations and in 2011 handled 28.9 million passengers. Boston Logan is the Air Line Pilot Association’s Airport of the Year for 2008 because of its commitment to safety. Over the past decade, the airport spent $4.5 billion on a modernization program that includes new terminals, public transportation access, parking facilities, roadways and airport concessions, and has been transformed into a world-class 21st Century facility.  The airport generates $7 billion in total economic impact each year.

No state tax dollars are used to fund operations or capital improvements at Massport facilities.
